Philip  Philip recently received a sponsor.

Philip is twenty-three years old and in Senior Four.  He is the firstborn of three children.  In 1992, when Philip was seven years old, his parents both died of HIV/AIDS in the same week.  His two sisters also passed away from the illness when Philip was young.  His grandfather support him until he passed away in 2000.  After that, Philip was forced to rely on neighbors for support.  He dropped out of school for six years, unable to afford the cost of an education until the director of Awegys School took Philip in and cared for him. 


Philip loves studying English and religion.  He enjoys working in the garden, reading the Bible, and exercising--Philip wakes up early every morning to run for an hour.  He dreams of becoming a commercial farmer and, “if the opportunity is still there, I want to continue on to university.”

Reen    Reen recently received a sponsor.

Reen was born in 1995 and is in Senior One.  She currently boards at Awegys and when at home lives with her mother.  Her favorite subject in school is English, but she dislikes mathematics.  In her free time, Reen loves reading novels, telling stories, and watching films.  “I would like to join university after secondary school,” she writes.  “I would like to become a doctor.  I pray…to reach that level and study high.”

Philliphs    Philliphs recently received a sponsor.

Philliphs was born in 1994 and is in Senior Two.  He boards at Awegys School but when at home lives with his mother and four siblings.  His father passed away from HIV/AIDS when Philliphs was young, and now his mother sells charcoal to try and earn enough money to feed her family.  Philliphs’s family is originally from Gulu in Northern Uganda, and Philliphs writes, “When I graduate, I want to help develop my district called Gulu, which has been affected by war for many years.”

 

Upon graduation, he also hopes to attend university and wants to work in finance.  “I would like to be an accountant or a bank manager,” he says.  “I have to concentrate in my studies and be disciplined.”  His favorite subject in school is chemistry, “because it is just like playing with particles and element-making.”  In his free time, Philliphs loves playing football and volleyball, watching TV, and making paper beads (a recent Mtaala project).

Sharifah    Sharifah recently received a sponsor.

Sharifah is fourteen years old and in Senior Two.  She currently boards at Awegys School.  When at home, she lives with her father and stepmother.  Sharifah is one of eight children, and her sibling, Fahadi L., is also a student with Mtaala Foundation.


Her favorite subject in school in agriculture, and in her free time she enjoys playing netball and volleyball, listening to music, and reading.   “I want to join university and become a teacher so that I can teach other children,” she writes, adding that she will “read very hard” to achieve her dreams.

Suzan   Suzan recently received a sponsor.

Suzan was born in 1990 and is in Senior Five.  She boards at Awegys School and lives with a guardian during school holidays.  “In our family,” she writes, “we are seven children.  We depend on agriculture to get food.”  He parents live in another district in Uganda but Suzan says, “they are peasants and cannot afford to pay for all of us.  I had dropped out of school because of lacking school fees, but then one my brothers heard of this sponsorship program.” 


Suzan loves composing songs, reading class books, and studying religion.  She wants to attend university and become a lawyer: “I want to judge both poor and rich equally,” she tells us.

Tonny   Tonny recently received a sponsor.

Tonny is 16 years old and lives with his aunt and grandmother. His parents died from HIV/AIDS in 1999 and 2000. He has completed the second year of secondary school, but has been forced to drop out due to lack of fees. His cousin has been supporting him at secondary school, but no longer has the money to do so, as he has his own family to support.  

Tonny loves playing football and is favorite subject at school is Biology. He hopes to attend university and become a doctor to help sick people through treatment.  “Thank you for coming to try and help me,” he says.  “God bless you.” STUDENT ID: 0044

Oscar Oscar recently received a sponsor.

Oscar is fifteen years old and lives with his mother and his uncle. He is the third born of five children. His father was a government soldier and was killed in a battle. His mother and uncle are peasant farmers; his uncle provides labor in the gardens to earn some money.  

Oscar likes playing football and his favorite subject at school is Math, because it is a key subject for his future. He dreams of attending a training college after secondary school and becoming an engineer. Both of his elder brothers have dropped out of school because of lack of money to pay for school fees. “I don’t want this to happen to me, because studying is very important.” STUDENT ID: 0054

Oliver Oliver recently received a sponsor.

Oliver is fifteen years old and is the first born of two. Her father was killed by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels. Oliver lives with her mother and her father’s relatives. Oliver’s mother does not have any source of income, but she cultivates some crops which her family depends on for food. Oliver has finished primary school and would like to join secondary school, but her mother cannot afford it. 

Oliver enjoys running, long jump and reading books. Her favorite subject is Science because they learn “health and sanitation which helps to control life.” Oliver dreams of attending a training school for nurses after secondary school.   “I don’t want to drop out of school,” she says “because I want to have a bright future.” STUDENT ID: 0048

Prisilia    Prisilia recently received a sponsor.

Prisilia is fourteen years old and lives on her own. A neighbor acts as her guardian. Her parents are both alive, but they are separated and work as peasant farmers in the village. She has finished primary school, but cannot afford to attend secondary school.  Without sponsorship, Prisilia will be unable to continue her education. 

Her favorite subject at school is English and she dreams of attending university and becoming a lawyer as she wants “to fight corruption,” she says.  She “fears to drop out of school, because I won’t have a bright future if it happens.” STUDENT ID: 0057

Silverline   Silverline recently received a sponsor.

Silverline was born in 1994 and has finished primary school. She lives with her sister and is the last born of seven children. After her parents died of HIV/AIDS in 1992 and 1993, Silverline’s eldest sister, along with her husband, began to look after the family. Sadly, her eldest sister lost her husband when LRA rebels attacked the village and killed him. 

Although Silverline’s sister would like to support Silverine’s education, she is now the sole provider for her own children, as well as all of her siblings.  She currently sells maize and other produce to get by.

Silverine enjoys reading books and playing dodge ball. Her favorite subject at school is math because it is easy for her to understand. She dreams of finishing secondary school, going to university, and becoming a nurse.  “Please help support my education,” she asks.

Sylvia   Sylvia recently received a sponsor.

Syliva was born in 1991 and is in Senior One.  She boards at Awegys School and lives with her mother on school holidays.  She has eight siblings, and her father passed away in 1993.  “Our mother is unemployed but grows food to feed us,” Sylvia writes.  “Only one of my siblings completed high school.  All the rest dropped out of school in primary and most got married.”


Like her siblings, Sylvia dropped out of school after completing primary school.  “I was looking for work as a housemaid,” she writes, “but the director of Awegys School allowed me to join so I can continue studying.”  In school, Sylvia’s favorite subject is English.  “I want to be a doctor...I must study hard!”  Sylvia dreams of graduating from secondary school and joining a university to study medicine.  In her free time she enjoys running and playing netball.

Patrick Patrick recently received a sponsor.

Patrick is eighteen years old and lives with his grandmother and sisters. His parents died of HIV/AIDS in 1999. After primary school he joined secondary school, but struggled to pay for himself by raising and selling his own crops. After one year he was forced to drop out of school. He is now growing more crops and hopes in the future to be able to pay for another year of school, but it is difficult and detracts from his studies.  

Patrick enjoys writing and playing football. His favorite subject is Math because it “can help me in business.” He dreams of attending university to become an airline pilot and “traveling with many people to different countries...I am very determined to study and achieve my goal,” he says.

Samuel   Samuel recently received a sponsor.

Samuel is fifteen years old and in Senior One. He attends Awegys School during the day and lives at home with his father, mother and two siblings. Both of Samuel’s siblings have already dropped out of school because their parents are struggling to provide for the family and can no longer afford school fees.


Samuel enjoys playing team sports such as football and volleyball. His favorite class is biology as he feels it will help him obtain his dream of becoming a doctor. His parents are increasingly finding difficulty in meeting his educational costs and he has had to stay at home a lot to hand-break stones so he can buy some school materials. “I wish to continue with my education. Please help me”, Samuel writes.

Sam    Sam recently received a sponsor.

Sam is sixteen years old and is in Senior One. He is living with his brother because both of his parents have passed away from AIDS. Sam’s father died in 1997 and his mother passed in 2001. Sam’s brother helped him complete primary school but is unable to help him in secondary school because it is expensive. “Please help me. Any help will enable me to achieve my goal. Thank you”.


Sam’s favogtire activities are football and volleyball. He enjoys biology and math class because he wishes to one day become a doctor.  “I want to be a doctor because I want to save lives for many people”, he said.  Sam’s favorite activities are football and volleyball. Stephen  Stephen is in need of a sponsor.

Stephen is fifteen years old and is Primary Seven. He attends school during the day and lives at home with his mother and two siblings.  Unfortunately Stephen’s father passed away in 2009 from AIDS. His mother, a young mother who birthed him while still a minor is HIV positive. When healthy, she does some petty business of selling tomatoes to support the family’s basic needs but will not be able to support Stephen’s secondary school education next year.


Stephen loves to play football and enjoys English class. Stephen wants to continue working hard at school so he can graduate and move forward with his dream of becoming a police officer so he can maintain law and order.

Sharon   Sharon recently received a sponsor.

Sharon is fifteen years old and is in Senior Two. She lives at home with her mother and sister. Sharon’s father passed away in May 2003 of HIV. Her mother , when healthy, grows vegetables and fruits for sale at the road-side in order to provide for her family. Unfortunately her mother is HIV positive and struggles from day to day with this illness.


Sharon is very athletic and enjoys playing netball. Her favorite subject is Chemistry because she enjoys the science of it all. She wishes to one day become a teacher and has hopes of attending a Primary Teaching College in the future. “I ask for your assistance since I am currently at home because of money”.

Simon  Simon is in need of a sponsor.

Simon is thirteen years old and in Primary Seven. He attends school during the day and lives at home with his uncle and five siblings. Simon’s father passed away in July 1997 due to a car accident. His mother recently died in September 2010 from Malaria. Unfortunately since both of Simon’s parents are deceased and his relatives can’t afford his school fees it will be unlikely for him to be able to attend school next year.


Simon loves to play football and enjoys Social Studies. He wants to become a teacher and feels that if he continues to work hard at his goal he will be able to achieve his dreams.

Nixson Nixson is in need of a sponsor.

Nixson is fourteen years old and is Primary Seven and is the younger brother of Lidia. He attends school during the day and lives with his father and sister.


Nixson is very athletic and enjoys playing football and volleyball. As much as Nixson loves to play sports he is also very dedicated to his schoolwork. He enjoys English class and wishes to one day become a doctor for he says it would be a useful job to his country, Uganda.


Nixon’s father sells roasted chicken by the roadside to provide basic needs for his family. He is, unfortunately, incapable of raising school fees for his children when they move on to secondary school.

Pamela Pamela is in need of a sponsor.

Pamela is seventeen years old and in Senior One. She attends school during the day and when at home she lives at home with just her mother since her father was killed in 1997 by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels. Her mother sells greens but is struggling to support Pamela’s school fees.


Pamela enjoys playing netball and football. Her favorite subject is History because she loves to learn about past events. Pamela wishes to one day become a nurse she is able to treat people and save their lives.  ‘I have to work hard in my studies to join nursing school’ says Pamela.

Richard    Richard is in need of a sponsor.

Richard is sixteen years old and in Primary Seven. Richard started school later in life because his parents separated and he had to help his mother in the garden to provide for their family. After his mother passed away in 2008 Richard and his three siblings went to live with his father.


Richard’s favorite subject is math and he enjoys playing high jump. “Please help me because I would like a good future”, says Richard. He wishes to one day become a teacher so he can teach other children.



Winnifred  Winnifred recently received a sponsor.

Winnifred is 15 years old and in Senior One. Her father died in 2001 and her mother died in 2004 so now she lives at home with her grandmother and attends. After secondary school, she joined secondary school but dropped out because of lack of school fees. She enjoys reading books and participating in athletics.


Winnifred’s favorite subject in school is English. She says she dreams of becoming a nurse so that she can join the fight against the diseases that are attacking so many families, like her own. “I humbly request you to help me achieve my dream by paying my school fees. Thank you”, writes Winnifred.
