Grace Grace recently received a sponsor.
Grace is seventeen years old and in Senior Two. Born in Kenya, Grace moved to Uganda with her sister and brother-in-law in search of a better life. She lives with them during breaks and boards at Awegys School during the academic term. Unfortunately, Grace says, “the salary that my brother-in-law earns cannot support me and his family.”
Grace’s parents live in Kenya and have eleven children, but, Grace writes, “they cannot afford to look after all of us.” Her father suffers from mental illness and her mother has asthma.
When not studying, Grace likes to play volleyball and netball, sing, read novels, and act. Her family’s difficulties have also inspired her to look for a better future. Grace’s favorite subject is chemistry, and she hopes to attend university and become a doctor “to discover medicine which treats asthma, HIV/AIDS, and mental illness...I would like work hard in my studies in order to achieve these goals.”

Hajarah currently attends Awegys Secondary School, but needs sponsorship. “I don’t want to drop out of school, so I sell maize and yams in the village to raise some money to buy school materials. I will be grateful if I get a sponsor because I will be able to concentrate on my studies.”

Geoffrey Geoffrey recently received a sponsor.
Geoffrey is thirteen years old and lives with his mother. Geoffrey enjoys playing football and reading books. His favorite subject is Maths. He wants to continue studying and become a mechanic.
Geoffrey’s father was killed, along with eleven of his relatives, by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels, when Geoffrey was 5 days old. Geoffrey now stays in a rented hut, because Ugandan culture does not allow Geoffrey’s mother to inherit his father’s land. His mother provides causal labour to the community to earn a little money, but could not afford to send him to secondary school. Geoffrey repeated his last year of primary school, not because he had to, but because he wanted to continue his education. STUDENT ID: 0053
