Agnes  Agnes recently received a sponsor.

Agnes is sixteen years old and in Senior Four.  She currently boards at Awegys School and, when at home, lives in her father’s house with her siblings.  Her stepsister, Jackline K., is also a student with Mtaala Foundation.  Agnes’s mother died in 2004 from cerebral malaria.  Agnes writes that as her mother was dying, “she looked like an HIV/AIDS patient because of her symptoms.”  After her mother died, Agnes’s father left the family to live with her stepmother.  He now visits only on weekends.

“I would like to become a doctor in order to treat the ever increasing disease in our country, especially AIDS,” Agnes writes.  She dreams of attending university and enjoys studying religion in school, writing that it teaches her “how someone should live in this environment or society.”  In her free time, Agnes loves playing netball, visiting friends, and listening to music.

Brenda    Brenda recently received a sponsor.

Brenda is fourteen years old and lives with her brothers Bonny and Francis, both of whom are seeking sponsorship, and her elderly grandparents. Both of her parents died of HIV/AIDS.  Their grandfather is too old to garden, so she and her grandmother grow food. Her grandparents sold their cow and some crops to pay for her eldest brother to attend secondary school, but last term he was forced to drop out because there was nothing left to sell.

Brenda walked a very long distance every day to attend primary school. She enjoys cooking and her favorite subject is Science, because she wants to be a nurse. “If my grandparents fail to support my secondary education next year, I will study the last class of primary again because I don’t want to just stay at home – I want to study. Please help me so that I don’t drop out of school.”

Apio    Apio recently received a sponsor.

Apio is sixteen years old and lives with her brother. She is the third born of six children. Both of her parents passed away. She now lives with her brother, who has a family and two children.

Apio enjoys the high jump, and in her spare time she digs the land. At school her favorite subject is Math. She hopes to go to university and becoming a nurse to “help to treat other people.”  Her brother does not have a stable source of income and is very committed to educating her, but is not able to support her secondary education financially. Without sponsorship Apio will be unable to continue her education.

“I request for your support so I can study and complete secondary school,” she says.  STUDENT ID: 0050

Brenda    Brenda recently received a sponsor.

Brenda is fifteen years old and has recently completed primary school. She is the sixth born of eleven children. Both her parents were killed in a road traffic accident while walking home from her father’s workplace, the local secondary school, in May 2007. Her eldest sister’s husband began to provide for the family, also a secondary school teacher. Unfortunately in May 2008 he died from HIV/AIDS. Brenda’s elder sisters have been forced to drop out of school. Without sponsorship Brenda will be unable to continue her education.

“I would like to go to university. In the future I would like to be a doctor because it helps save lives.”  To achieve her dream Brenda says she must be “hard working in school” and do lots of “reading.”  At school she enjoys English and in her free time she likes to play volley ball.
